All the News from Faith Formation:
Dear Faith Formation families:
Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed a peaceful and happy Christmas season together. We are now fully into the swing of Faith Formation classes. Our classes over the next weeks will be filled with good stories of the life and teachings of Jesus. We will study the gospel for the upcoming Sunday, and we will share in the fellowship of our catechists and classmates.
We give thanks for the students who celebrated their First Reconciliation in December. The boys and girls learned about mercy, forgiveness, absolution, and conscience. The 3rd and 4th grade students also celebrated Reconciliation before Christmas to prepare their hearts for the baby Jesus’ birth.
All families are invited to a soup supper before class on Wednesday, January 31. The soup supper begins at 5:30 P.M., and is held in Nativity Hall. Proceeds benefit our parish youth ministry. Dine on some delicious soup and then come over to class from 6:00-7:00 P.M.
The beginning of a new year is a time for prayerful gratitude. I am grateful for many things. I am very grateful to you-and for you. You are the primary educators of your child, and you allow us to share in that challenge and privilege. Thank you. In these early weeks of the New Year, let’s prayerfully renew our commitment to one another to work together in sharing our faith with your child.
Last Sunday was the feast of the Epiphany. The catechists shared the story with the children this week. Ask your child the names of the 3 kings and the gifts they brought to Jesus. (Kings: Caspar, Melchior, Balthazar. Gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh). The story is found in the book of Matthew: chapter 2, verses 1-12. Blessings to you for a peaceful new year.
At home, please review or help your child learn the daily prayers found on the back of this sheet. This is a special time you can share with your child and family. Second, third, and fourth grade students should memorize the “Act of Contrition” before Lent. Take the time to teach them the Mass parts and motivate your child to participate more fully. This is my “weekly homework” for all of you.
Truly yours in Christ,
Mrs. Marijo Fischer
